Bill Applegate brings more than 20 years of political, legislative and regulatory health care public policy experience to the firm.  He began his career as an aide in the United States Senate. Throughout his career, he has assisted health care associations and corporate clients to impact and shape the development of national and state health care public policy.

Mr. Applegate works closely with organizations to enhance and harness their political strengths, identify achievable goals and implement strategic government relations tactics and programs to achieve tangible results.

Mr. Applegate works with key congressional, regulatory and executive-branch decision makers on important health care public policy issue areas including provider coverage and reimbursement; biomedical research funding; patient access to specialty care; graduate medical education; health care fraud compliance matters; and the many facets of the Affordable Care Act.

Some of Mr. Applegate’s health care client partners include: American Society of Transplantation; The Endocrine Society; American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; The Vision Council; Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society; Health Industry Distributors Association; Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board; Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association; and Pedorthic Footwear Association. He has been formally recognized by many of these clients for his outstanding service.

Prior to joining Bryan Cave, Mr. Applegate served for eight years as the director of government relations at two different firms. He was also the manager of congressional and regulatory affairs at the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Mr. Applegate worked aggressively to strengthen health care policy for the clinical laboratory community. He also worked as the senior director of government affairs for Smith Bucklin Associates, the largest association management firm in the world.

In 2013, Mr. Applegate was selected by the St. Louis Business Journal as one of its annual “40 Under 40” professionals to watch in the business community. He has also been quoted and published in a variety of health care provider and medical publications, including the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN).
