Martha Collins Rolle is Of Counsel in the London office with a broad financing practice. Prior to joining the firm, she was a partner at another international firm where she was managing partner of their London office and the UK lead for the negotiations by the Anschutz Entertainment Group in the approximately $500 million multi-currency construction financing for the build-out of The O2 in London.

Ms. Rolle has advised clients in a broad range of industries, including sports and entertainment, film and media, oil and gas, mining, energy, real estate, railroad and telecommunications industries. With over 20 years of experience in complex financings, including project financings, asset-backed securitizations, repos, synthetic leases, cross-border financings, energy projects and vendor financings, Ms. Rolle represents both lenders and borrowers in loans which have exceeded eleven billion dollars in the aggregate. These loans are secured by a variety of collateral in more than 20 countries.

Ms. Rolle has helped clients implement billions of dollars (or their equivalent) worth of interest rate, currency, fuel, power and precious metals hedging strategies. She represented a corporate counterparty in the Enron bankruptcy that was party to interest rate and power hedges with Enron and a number of corporate counterparties on unwinding foreign exchange transactions in distressed circumstances. Ms. Rolle has been providing derivatives advice since the 1980’s to end users with financial counterparties including Citibank, Credit Suisse, Bank of Nova Scotia, JPMorgan Chase Bank, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Toronto Dominion, amongst others. In addition, she has lectured in joint programs with KPMG and, separately, with Price Waterhouse on hedging issues under the Master Form of ISDA Agreement.

Examples of the variety of financings for which Ms. Rolle served as the lead counsel include representing the lender for an oil and gas project financing in Colombia; representing OPIC as credit support provider under a $200,000,000 Credit Facility Guaranty Agreement to support loans by a major U.S. lender to Russian borrowers; representing the sponsor for a project financing for construction of an oil pipeline in California; representing Qwest Communications International Inc. on $2.5 billion syndicated loan facilities; representing a large European cable operator on a €1 billion syndicated loan facility; and representing a large U.S. railroad on an $850 million senior secured syndicated bank loan for the acquisition of a railroad. She also served as lead counsel on numerous asset backed securitizations, including a $400 million accounts receivable facility for a U.S. railroad, which was the first of its kind. She has written a number of articles on financing issues and has lectured on derivative transactions. Ms. Rolle formerly practiced under the name of Martha Traudt Collins before moving to London.

Ms. Rolle is recognised in The Legal 500 UK 2015 for her continued work in bank lending: investment grade debt and syndicated loans. Ms. Rolle (together with Mr. Ed Marlow) are described by clients as “versatile finance lawyers.”
