Marie Riley focuses her practice in intellectual property. Ms. Riley concentrates her work on preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, patent litigation, IP agreements, and strategic IP counseling. Ms. Riley has extensive experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the mechanical arts, including construction hangers, truss tables, veneer ties and anchoring systems, air handling components and systems, fabricated supports and enclosures for electrical components, catheters, safety needle devices, and other medical devices. She is regularly involved in patent litigation and third party proceedings, including substantive analysis, discovery practice, and support of in-court proceedings.
Ms. Riley works closely with inventors, in-house counsel, and business executives during new product development, including reviewing invention disclosure records, preparing non-disclosure agreements, conducting patentability searches and landscape analyses, rendering patentability opinions, preparing freedom-to-operate opinions based on non-infringement and invalidity, developing design-around options, and managing patent portfolios based on commercial value. Ms. Riley also assists clients in enforcing patents, including evaluating competitor products to perform initial infringement analyses and devising enforcement strategies. Ms. Riley regularly conducts intellectual property due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions and prepares intellectual property agreements. Ms. Riley’s practice also includes assisting clients with clearance and protection of trademarks.
Ms. Riley is a registered patent attorney and holds undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration.
