Kamao has particular experience in financing, joint ventures, acquisitions, leasing, and litigation management. Kamao’s practice covers all asset classes, including office, residential, industrial, and retail. Kamao’s robust finance practice focuses on syndications, participations, senior secured financing, mezzanine financing, and private equity investment. As part of his finance practice, Kamao routinely advises portfolio lenders and CMBS lenders in connection with the origination and sale of term loans, bridge loans, and construction loans. Representative transactions in which Kamao has acted as lead counsel include:

  • Negotiating and closing a joint venture on behalf of a national private equity firm in connection with its acquisition of a 90% membership interest and recapitalization of a 267-unit apartment project located in Lakewood, Colorado.
  • Negotiating and closing a joint venture on behalf of a private sponsor located in San Francisco in connection with its acquisition and financing of a multi-building office park located in Burlingame, California.
  • Representing a Fortune 500 CMBS lender in connection with the expansion of its west coast loan origination platform, including acquisitions and refinances of office parks, retail centers, and hotels located in California, Arizona, and Utah.
  • Representing a national bank in connection with a series of “note-on-note” financings in excess of $100,000,000 used to acquire and renovate a portfolio of residential properties located throughout Southern California.
  • Representing the lead bank and administrative agent in connection with an $82,000,000 senior-secured construction loan used to build a dual-brand hotel located in Silicon Valley, California.
  • Representing a private “hard money” lender in connection with its origination of a UCC secured mezzanine loan used to construct a 400-unit condominium project located in Broward County, Florida.

Kamao lives in Newport Beach, California, with his wife Katie and daughter Logan. Prior to joining Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Kamao graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a participant in the Environmental Law Clinic and a finalist in the Client Counseling Competition. Kamao attended college at the University of Southern California, where he obtained a double-major in Political Science with an emphasis in Law and Government, and Communications.
