Jacquelyn Schell is an associate in the firm’s Commercial Litigation and White Collar Defense and Investigations practice groups. Ms. Schell’s commercial litigation practice includes commercial contract disputes, fiduciary litigation, representation of secured lenders, and in particular, defense of media companies and private clients in defamation, First Amendment, and Communications Decency Act litigations.

As part of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Group, Ms. Schell has defended companies and individuals under investigation by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, District Attorneys’ Offices, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory agencies. She also conducts internal corporate investigations and audits.

Prior to joining Bryan Cave, Ms. Schell served as a Special Assistant District Attorney in the Cobb Judicial Circuit. In that office, she obtained several successful jury verdicts and negotiated plea agreements for both white collar and violent crimes. Ms. Schell earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and spent the fall of her third year as an intern with the U.S. State Department’s Office of Private International Law.

  • Defended corporate officer against allegations of theft in parallel investigations by Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Represented government contractor responding to subpoena from New York Department of Investigation.
  • Represented whistleblower in testimony before Federal Exchange Commission and Congressional investigation.
  • Conducted internal audit of loan origination procedures for national banking institution.

  • Represented major national media company in assertion of reporter’s privilege and First Amendment defenses to subpoenas.

  • Defended asset management company against breach of contract and misappropriation of confidential information claims asserted by competitor.
  • Represented restaurant purchaser in emergency proceedings to enforce purchase agreement and compel consent of landlord to lease assignment.
  • Represented hospital system in reimbursement disputes with insurance payor, including both motions to compel arbitration and arbitration of underlying claims.
  • Represented secured lenders in litigation and bankruptcy actions to recover defaulted commercial real estate investments.
