Charlene McHugh is Counsel in the firm’s New York office and a member of the firm’s Transactional and Regulatory Insurance Group. Her practice focuses on the regulatory aspects of insurance and reinsurance transactions and compliance with state, federal and NAIC laws and initiatives affecting insurance industry clients. Her clients include insurance and reinsurance companies, brokerages, agencies, captive insurers, private equity and hedge funds and other insurance industry participants.
For over 25 years, Charlene has helped clients navigate complex, multi-jurisdictional insurance laws and to obtain regulatory approvals for transactions including acquisitions/changes in control. She has extensive experience with mergers and acquisitions, insurance holding company transactions and filings, producer licensing issues, insurance company investments, surplus lines placements and reinsurance. Additionally, she has in-house experience at both a multi-national insurer and an insurance brokerage firm.
Charlene also represents clients at state administrative hearings related to insurance transactions, including Form A approvals, and has litigated and mediated commercial litigation matters. As an active participant with the NAIC since 1990, she keeps clients up to date on proposed and newly enacted statutes, regulations and other insurance-related initiatives.
