Aileen Hunter is an experienced trial attorney who defends Fortune 500 companies in both state and federal courts against claims involving breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets, real estate disputes, employment disputes, aerospace disputes, and trademark infringement.  Ms. Hunter has first chaired bench and jury trials, successfully argued dispositive motions at the trial court level, and argued before the California Court of Appeal.

In the employment arena, Ms. Hunter strategically defends employers against claims of racial and national origin discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation. She also counsels clients on crafting effective employee handbooks, drug testing policies, and hiring and firing procedures, as well as compliance with employment regulations promulgated by state and federal agencies.

Ms. Hunter attended the University of San Diego School of Law where she graduated cum laude and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.  Ms. Hunter holds an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley where she graduated magna cum laude. She also studied at the Institute of International and Comparative Law in Dublin, Ireland.

  • Obtained unanimous jury verdict for the defense in invasion of privacy lawsuit brought against financial institution.
  • Obtained complete dismissal of breach of fiduciary duty claims against officers of a publicly traded company in a bench trial in a complex securities fraud case.
  • Obtained complete dismissal at trial in favor of a financial institution accused of unfair competition.
  • Represented avionics aviation manufacturer in complex litigation following crash of an amateur-built experimental aircraft.
  • Defended aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider in litigation following an incident when an aircraft jumped the chocks during a performance run.
  • Defended an engineering firm and its officers in a trade secret/unfair competition action filed by a competing engineering firm.
  • Defended an energy drink company and its officers in an unfair competition and trade dress infringement suit.
  • Defended manufacturers of recordable media in a business tort lawsuit involving wire fraud and money laundering.
  • Litigated an international trademark dispute for the largest chain of multisite weight loss clinics in the United States before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and in federal court.
  • Co-author of the Respondents’ brief in the case before the United States Supreme Court addressing the “nerve center” test for a corporation’s principal place of business under 28 U.S.C. §1332.  Hertz Corp. v. Friend, 599 U.S. 77 (2010).
