Colorado Springs Partner Steve Smith was the subject of a Q&A interview Aug. 18 by the New York Law Journal on the boom in live streaming of sporting events through alternative media and the monetary impact on NFL and traditional media contracts. “Streaming is changing the landscape,” Smith said. “You’re going from a situation where you had a few sports properties with money and ability to put on national broadcast, to one where, with the internet, just about anybody can reach hundreds of thousands or even millions of people at a very low cost.” Noted by the publication as one of the nation’s top sports lawyers, Smith has negotiated TV sporting event deals with every major broadcast network and ESPN, and has handled more than $1 billion in stadium naming rights deals and $1.5 billion in sponsorship and licensing deals.
