For the ninth year in a row, Bryan Cave has earned a perfect score of 100 percent on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

“The CEI is considered the gold standard in evaluating employer policies and practices on LGBT issues,” said firm Chair Therese Pritchard. “We are proud to once again earn 100 percent in this important evaluation. This demonstrates our continued commitment to making the firm a diverse and inclusive workplace for everyone, and specifically for our LGBT colleagues.”

The 2016 CEI officially rated 851 businesses on LGBT-related policies and practices, including equal employment opportunity policies; employment benefits; organizational LGBT competency; and public commitment. This year, 407 businesses achieved a top rating of 100 percent – a record number. This, despite what the HRC Foundation calls three significant revisions resulting in more stringent criteria.

Nationwide, 95 law firms earned 100 percent – more than any other business sector. The banking and financial services industry came in second with 51 businesses earning 100 percent this year. The retail and consumer products sector came in third with 31 businesses receiving a top score.

Businesses that achieve a rating of 100 percent in the report are recognized as Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.

“Since the CEI’s inception in 2002, America’s largest employers, including so many with a global footprint, have embraced LGBT inclusion as a best business practice,” HRC Foundation President Chad Griffin noted in the report. “Protections for employees on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity are now non-negotiable components of business operations.”
