The international law firm Bryan Cave LLP announces the addition of David Père as counsel. Père will work within the firm’s criminal defense and compliance practices.

Père joins the compliance team in Paris, which includes lawyers from the litigation, corporate and data privacy practices. The firm has significant experience designing and implementing compliance programs (particularly with the recent anti-corruption Sapin II law in France), conducting investigations on suspicions of fraud, bribery or money laundering, as well as advising on matters related to export control and data privacy.

Père has significant experience in crisis situations and complex criminal cases, mainly bribery, tax evasion and money laundering cases, as well as internal investigations. Notably, he was one of the first in France to run workshops to prepare company directors and managers for police custody and investigations. In addition, Père also has represented victims of war crimes before French jurisdictions.

The international dimension of David’s practice is essential for our clients, who often face cross-border programs and investigations. In a global context, national legal systems increasingly intersect with each other so, particularly in the criminal defense area, the issues have become more and more international,” said Rémy Blain, Paris managing partner.

Bryan Cave has an active criminal defense practice across the United States and the rest of Europe. The arrival of Père will contribute to the development of this practice in France.

“His detailed knowledge of law enforcement authorities’ approach and his experience with complex, high-stakes cases is an asset which will significantly broaden our capabilities in white collar criminal law in Paris,” said Paris Partner Constantin Achillas.

Mark Srere, Washington partner and global head of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Team, said: “David’s background will significantly increase our ability to assist clients on the front end in establishing anti-corruption programs, as well as to help clients if issues arise by conducting effective internal investigations and to defend companies from government investigations.”

Père holds an LL.M. in international law from the Reading University in the UK and a master’s degree in business law and economy from Paris I (Sorbonne) University. He has been admitted to practice law in France since 2005 and has worked at criminal law boutiques in Paris. Père teaches criminal law at the Paris Ouest (Nanterre) University and is a regular speaker at conferences. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the French association of victims of terrorism.
