Kansas City Partners Rob Barnes, Perry Brandt, Bob Hoffman and Elaine Koch have been recognized as 2017 Best of the Bar by the Kansas City Business Journal. The process changed this year, providing a more exclusive list focused on practice areas most sought out by area businesses. Lawyers were selected by a diverse panel of judges from the profession, with special consideration given to recent activity and accomplishments, and whether they’d be comfortable referring a friend to a particular lawyer.

Barnes has practiced for more than 30 years in the areas of corporate law, securities and mergers, and acquisitions and serves as outside general counsel for public and private companies. He regularly serves as lead counsel on a variety of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, SEC reporting and compliance, corporate governance and takeover defense.

Brandt is the managing partner of Bryan Cave’s Kansas City office. He leads initiatives focused on strategic growth, marketing, diversity and attorney professional development. Since 1977, Brandt has acted as lead trial counsel in all types of complex business and commercial litigation in state and federal courts across the nation, as well as before various governmental agencies and arbitration panels. His experience spans a number of industries and types of proceedings, and he has achieved many summary judgments and other favorable resolutions prior to trial.

Hoffman’s practice focuses on trial and litigation of business disputes. He has experience representing both defendants and plaintiffs in cases involving all forms of commercial disputes including class actions, multidistrict litigation and significant individual claims. Hoffman has tried or otherwise resolved cases for clients in a broad range of industries including financial institutions, retailers, manufacturing companies and professional services.

Koch has more than 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer. Her practice focuses primarily on employment litigation, civil rights litigation and business torts, in addition to counseling clients on employment issues. She has tried a wide variety of jury trials in state and federal court. She also has tried arbitrations, bench trials and the largest individual taxpayer case in the history of the United States Tax Court. Her litigation experience includes contract disputes, class actions, employment litigation, business torts, products liability and civil rights litigation.
