A team from the firm’s Washington office has been selected to receive the 2018 Detained Children’s Champion award from the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition for representation of detained children this year.
The firm has a relationship with the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, whose mission is to provide legal assistance to detained immigrants living in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
The team working on CAIR cases primarily included Senior Counsel Rodney Page, Associates Kwabena Yeboah, Rachel Beck, Bryan Harrison and Colin Harris, and Paralegal Eileen Weiss.
“This past year has been a tumultuous time in the immigration advocacy field, with new decisions and policies reducing immigrant children’s ability to fight against deportation,” CAIR Executive Director Kathryn Doan noted in a letter to the firm. “Dedicated attorneys are more essential than ever for a child to win in immigration court. The attorneys at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner have shown their child clients what dedication truly is, with pro bono teams fighting across courts and even states for their clients. No obstacle has stopped the pro bono teams from winning for their clients.”
BCLP will be honored Oct. 2 at the CAIR Justice for All Reception and Awards Ceremony. Visit the CAIR Coalition website for more information.
