Two partners from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner were among the honorees at the recent FOCUS St. Louis 21st Annual What’s Right with the Region Awards.
St. Louis Partner Charlie Weiss accepted an award on behalf of the Missouri Coalition for the Right to Counsel, founded and launched in 2017. Weiss co-founded the organization and is a member of the board. The coalition coordinates and arranges training for attorneys interested in volunteering to receive case assignments from the Missouri State Public Defender offices in the Circuit Courts of the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County and Jackson County. More than 250 volunteer lawyers have been trained to help with the program, with plans to expand to more counties. The coalition was honored as an organization “demonstrating innovative solutions.”
St. Louis Partner Arindam Kar accepted an award, along with two fellow task force members, on behalf of the St. Louis City-County Governance Task Force. The task force was formed cooperatively last year by Better Together, St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger and St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson. Honored as an “emerging initiative” in the region, the task force seeks to identify and report on governmental reforms that can improve the cost and effectiveness of St. Louis’ municipal services. The task force ultimately will issue recommendations to the community on ways to provide more equitably access to delivery of government in the region.
Each year, FOCUS St. Louis recognizes the efforts of 20 individuals, organizations or initiatives making a positive difference in the St. Louis region.
