Bryan Cave’s New York office recently was presented with a special award from the Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon organization in recognition of the firm’s outstanding efforts and ongoing support of American troops stationed in Afghanistan. The award, in the form of an American flag, was presented June 16 to New York Office Managing Partner Vincent Alfieri by Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon’s President Alan Krutchkoff.

Since January, a dedicated group of Bryan Cave staff, led by Anne Neilson and Maureen Stephenson, has collected and sent money and much-needed supplies to the firm’s adopted Marine platoon – the 3/4 Battalion – and other related Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon programs.

To date, the firm has sent 70 cartons of supplies in support of efforts to build a school in the village of Now Zad, Afghanistan, and to help patients and wounded soldiers at a hospital in Kandahar. School supplies, books and other materials have been sent to Adopt-a-Platoon’s Operation Children Care, which serves children throughout the Afghan region. Plans also are under way for the firm to begin sending additional supplies to the 4/7 Battalion, which has taken over the 3/4 Battalion’s post. In addition, Bryan Cave staffers have contributed $2,400 to send 20 marines to the annual Marine Ball on June 17, an event that will celebrate the 3/4 battalion’s return home.

In April, Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon appointed Bryan Cave’s Neilson as the board’s corporate secretary. Since February, Bryan Cave has served as the organization’s first and only “Administrative Angel” partner, a result of the Bryan Cave team’s work in spearheading a system to streamline the delivery of materials to participating Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon troops.
