International law firm Bryan Cave LLP has expanded its IP practice in Germany with the addition of IP and IT lawyer Dominik Weiß to the Hamburg team as counsel. Weiß joins Bryan Cave from bock legal in Frankfurt am Main, where he was an associate partner. He is the second newcomer to the IP team this year, following trademark law specialist Dr. Andreas Hentschel, who also joined the Hamburg office earlier this month.

“Intellectual property and IT issues play an increasingly important role in corporate transactions. Dominik is a very experienced counsel who will lead and coordinate the IP team in Germany,” comments Eckart Budelmann, managing partner of the Hamburg office. “He will also work closely with our international IP practice in the US, Europe and Asia.”

As a lawyer who has qualified as a specialist in intellectual property, Weiß advises both national and international companies of all sizes on the effective enforcement of their rights and he has extensive court experience in trademark and unfair competition law, as well as design rights protection. He also assists clients in the registration of national and international trademarks and represents them in various proceedings before the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and he regularly advises on IP issues encountered during transactions.

In addition, Weiß advises on complex IT law and e-commerce matters. He helps numerous clients address the legal issues surrounding major IT projects, the structuring of online shops and other internet pages, and the licensing and distribution of software. He also regularly deals with regulatory and data privacy law issues, as well as antitrust and distribution law matters. An additional focus of his practice lies in advising and representing international companies in complex, cross-border commercial disputes, both in court and in arbitration proceedings.

The hire is a continuation of Bryan Cave’s growth in Germany. In addition to Dr. Andreas Hentschel, high-profile Partner Kirsten Grinth and two associates recently joined Bryan Cave to work within the firm’s Transaction Practice in Frankfurt.
