The international law firm Bryan Cave LLP has promoted four lawyers to counsel at the firm.

  Melissa R. Costello, Labor & Employment, Phoenix

Melissa Costello counsels and represents employers in litigation on employment law matters related to contracts, non-compete agreements, harassment, discrimination, hiring, firing, and wage and hour laws. Costello regularly represents clients before administrative agencies and in state and federal court. She has considerable experience working with clients of all sizes, ranging from privately held, media businesses, construction companies, and the Phoenix Suns, to local and national nonprofit organizations, to Fortune 500 restaurant and resort conglomerates. Costello regularly presents seminars highlighting employment law developments. Before attending law school, she was a human resources professional. Costello is active in a variety of community and nonprofit activities, currently serving as vice chair of the Cancer Support Community of Arizona.

Rhiana A. Luaders, Commercial Litigation, St. Louis  

Rhiana Luaders is a commercial litigator with extensive experience representing and advising financial institutions. Her work includes trial and appellate work defending large financial institutions facing individual and mass actions. Claims asserted in litigation Luaders has defended include fraud and unfair practice allegations under the laws of numerous states. Her work representing financial institutions also includes claims involving real estate issues such as lien resolution; title issues; deed reformation; hazard, flood and private mortgage insurance claims; notary fraud; forgery; securitization of loan issues; and property preservation matters. A well rounded litigator, Luaders also has experience in litigating environmental claims, as well as general commercial litigation matters. Luaders actively represents pro bono clients, particularly in the landlord-tenant area. She is also involved in the local bar, as well as social service agencies.

Karl L. Marschel, Real Estate, Chicago  

Karl Marschel’s practice involves all areas of real estate transactional work, including complex acquisition and disposition, land development, zoning and land use, commercial leases, and other corporate real estate matters. Marschel has broad experience advising clients regarding public finance, state and municipal incentives, and public-private partnership matters.


Patricia A. Shea, Technology, Entrepreneurial & Commercial Practice, St. Louis  

Patty Shea is the co-leader of Bryan Cave’s Commercial Practice Team. She frequently leads outsourced general counsel and commercial projects for top-tier firm clients. Her experience includes creation of client contract management systems in conjunction with Bryan Cave’s Client Technology Team. Prior to joining the firm, Shea spent nearly 20 years in-house as a general or assistant general counsel, as well as shouldering chief operating officer responsibilities. Shea is a former officer of the Association of Corporate Counsel and is well-known and respected in the St. Louis corporate counsel community.
