Atlanta Partners Jerry Blanchard and Bill Custer will speak at the Georgia Bankers Association (GBA) 2016 Bank Counsel Conference, Oct. 2-4 in Greensboro, N.C.

Blanchard will lead an Oct. 3 breakout session, “Recent Developments in State and Federal Law,” where he will discuss recent developments in the laws effecting banks (including state and federal legislation, case law and regulatory changes), how they affect bank clients and the advice counsel should give them.

Custer will take part in a panel Oct. 3 titled “Ethical Issues in Bank Representation,” which will explore ethical issues lawyers face in providing regulatory, transactional and litigation advice to bank clients, as told through the eyes of a newly minted in-house lawyer working at a bank. Topics will include common issues confronted in dealing with other lawyers, including internal and external counsel, as well as in practicing together with the lawyers representing the banking agencies.

Blanchard has a broad financial institution practice which covers three major areas: advising senior management and bank boards on a wide variety of legal and regulatory issues; credit transactions of all kinds; and the area of problem loan workouts and bankruptcy. He also advises clients on managing legal and reputational risk and enterprise risk management.

Custer has extensive experience representing corporate clients in a wide range of complex commercial litigation including disputes involving banking, insurance and a variety of corporate transactions. A frequent speaker on legal issues, Custer is co-leader of Bryan Cave’s Fiduciary Litigation Practice.
