Washington Associate Roland Backhaus and Santa Monica Counsel Jackson Pai will present Nov. 15 at the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) Billion Dollar CLO Roundtable in Chicago. The two-day conference, Nov. 14-15, will feature speakers on a variety of topics, including artificial intelligence and company investigations.
Backhaus and Pai will present on the panel “Buying Products Outside of the U.S.,” which will discuss the legal challenges associated with purchasing products outside of the U.S., such as anti-corruption laws and regulations, risk-based due diligence, and contract enforcement outside of the US.
Backhaus counsels foreign and domestic clients regarding matters related to international business transactions and international trade, including U.S. export controls, trade sanctions, anti-boycott and anti-corruption. In addition, he has significant experience representing stakeholders in the international nuclear industry. In this capacity, Backhaus has represented utilities, vendors and financial institutions in regulatory, transactional and dispute resolution matters.
Pai practices in the International Trade Client Service Group. His practice covers a range of international and trade issues, including international corporate transactions, customs, global labor and employment, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the World Trade Organization.
