Walter Opaska practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent prosecution, litigation, and client counseling, as well as in trade secret, trademark, and copyright matters. He has experience in all aspects of foreign and domestic patent and trademark prosecution. His patent prosecution and litigation practice includes the areas of computer hardware and software, mechanical devices, business methods, consumer electronics, semiconductor device manufacturing, medical devices, liquid crystal display devices, optical devices, business methods, and telecommunications systems.
Mr. Opaska also counsels clients on matters involving intellectual property issues that arise in the context of general corporate and securities transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions. He has experience drafting and negotiating a variety of intellectual property agreements, including software, trademark, patent and technology licenses, software development contracts, and non-disclosure agreements.
He has a master’s degree in physics and a bachelor’s degree in physics with minors in computer science and mathematics. His research and technical experience includes fellowships at two national laboratories, Los Alamos and Thomas Jefferson, and a position as a software engineer at Lockheed Martin. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Opaska was an associate with a Tucson, Ariz. law firm where he specialized in intellectual property matters.
