Volunteer Lawyers Program Pro Bono Award 2010

Bryan Cave Partner Jay Zweig and Associates Kyle Hirsch and Robert Reder were recognized for their
pro bono efforts at the Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP) 2009-2010 “For Love of Justice” Pro Bono Awards reception, held April 22 in Phoenix. VLP established these awards to honor volunteers who help ensure access to civil justice for people with low incomes. Hirsch was honored as Children’s Law Center Attorney of the Year, as well as Attorney of the Month for February. Zweig and Reder were honored as Attorneys of the Month for December.
The Volunteer Lawyers Program has united those in need with volunteer attorneys since 1981. VLP is co-sponsored by Community Legal Services and the Maricopa County Bar Association.
Zweig practices in all areas of employment law and related commercial litigation. He represents private businesses, public corporations and governments in avoiding and resolving employment law disputes. Zweig has more than 20 years of experience counseling and representing employers in matters related to human resources, preventing and defending lawsuits and administrative actions regarding contracts, non-compete covenants, sexual harassment, discrimination, wage and hour law, class action, OSHA and ADA issues. He has been lead counsel in federal and state court trials for clients that range from start-up ventures to Fortune 100 companies.
Hirsch practices in the litigation and bankruptcy areas, primarily focusing on defending and asserting creditors’ rights in state and federal court. As a compliment to his work on behalf of the firm’s clients, Hirsch applies his Spanish language fluency to provide pro bono legal assistance to deserving members of the Phoenix community. He has received significant recognition for pro bono efforts, including being named as one of the Top 50 Pro Bono Attorneys in Arizona for 2007 by The Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education. Hirsch is also a past chair and present committee member of the Phoenix office’s charitable group, Cavers Who Care. Prior to entering the practice of law, Hirsch was a human resources manager and consultant.
Reder practices in the areas of commercial litigation and labor and employment. His commercial litigation experience involves state and federal trial court and appellate litigation, including extensive discovery and depositions, motion practice, oral argument and trial preparation. Reder also defends businesses in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits. In addition, he assists businesses with a variety of employment matters related to human resource management, prevention and defense of lawsuits, EEOC actions, investigations by the U.S. Department of Labor and the defense of OSHA citations including those related to fatalities.
