Thomas Schweich served the Bush administration as the ambassador for counternarcotics and justice reform in Afghanistan, as deputy assistant secretary of state for international law enforcement and chief of staff to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. He is currently a special representative for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Mr. Schweich's legal practice focuses on government contracts litigation, commercial litigation, corporate internal investigations and white collar criminal defense. He has handled federal and state court bench and jury trials, briefing and oral argument relative to jurisdictional and venue motions, motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, motions to amend pleadings, etc.; numerous depositions; discovery administration and related motions in complex litigation; representation of subjects and targets of federal investigations; numerous cases involving classified, sensitive, and/or proprietary information requiring protective orders and special proceedings.
Counseling: advised clients on prime and subcontract terms and conditions, terminations for convenience, terminations for default, subcontractor claims totaling more than $600 million, inventory disposition, commercial items procurement, suspension and debarment, source selection criteria and procedures, security requirements, etc.
Litigation: represented clients in suits against the government and defended clients in suits brought by prime contractors, subcontractors and qui tam plaintiffs. Has also represented numerous aerospace, high tech and mining companies in connection with federal investigations.
