Stephen Benyi practices intellectual property law, including trademark and copyright prosecution, and emphasizing patent prosecution. Additionally, Mr. Benyi regularly provides client counseling and assists with transactional matters. Mr. Benyi’s patent prosecution experience comprises computer hardware and software, telecommunication, business methods, macro-scale and nano-scale electrical, medical, and mechanical devices, semiconductor device manufacturing, consumer electronic devices, and sporting goods. Some of Mr. Benyi’s notable experience includes, among other things, work with clean energy technologies (e.g., electric vehicle charging systems, fuel cells, battery electrolyte chemistries, photovoltaics), cloud computing and mobile application technologies, medical technologies (e.g., medical imaging, endovascular implants, bioelectronic medical implants, orthopedic implants), cellular networking technologies (e.g., network roaming, modulation), flexible display technologies, and aerospace technologies (e.g., flight systems). Further, some specific examples of Mr. Benyi’s work with computer software includes systems and methods for media tagging and searching, for gamification, for time management and scheduling, for advertising placement and customization, for data traffic optimization and monitoring, for registration and membership, for electric vehicle charging optimization and transactions, for making reservations, and for mobile device pairing.
Mr. Benyi graduated with his bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and juris doctorate, completing a certificate in intellectual property law, from Arizona State University. He has technical experience including aerodynamics research relating to high speed wind tunnels and hotwire anemometry. Mr. Benyi also has technical experience pertaining to aircraft, aircraft propeller, aircraft wing, rotor/stator, rocket swirl injector nozzle and high speed nozzle design.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Benyi clerked at Arizona Science and Technology Enterprises, the technology transfer arm of Arizona State University, and worked as a fellow of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law Public Interest Fellowship at the Phoenix City Attorney’s Office. He also studied the Spanish language at Tecnológico de Monterrey while living abroad in Monterrey, Mexico.
