Sara Butler is a member of the Commercial Litigation and Labor & Employment client service groups. Ms. Butler has represented a variety of business clients, predominantly large financial institutions, in complex legal disputes involving loan purchase representations and warranties and loan servicing claims, lender liability, coverage disputes, contract claims, and tort defense. Her practice also includes advising and defending clients with respect to claims involving federal lending laws and regulations, including TILA, RESPA, and HOEPA, as well as state consumer protection and unfair competition claims. Ms. Butler is experienced in all stages of litigation, including motion practice, mediation, discovery, trial, appellate briefing, and oral argument.
Ms. Butler also does pro bono work, including having obtained favorable immigration status for victims of human trafficking and successfully representing non-profit organizations to rehabilitate abandoned homes in blighted areas under the Missouri’s Abandoned Housing Act.
During law school, Ms. Butler was President of the Public Interest Law Association and Administrative and Technical Editor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Law Review. Ms. Butler also served as a Legal Research & Writing Teaching Assistant.
