PJ Rivera is a registered patent attorney with experience in the fields of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and unfair competition. Mr. Rivera’s practice encompasses the preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications, the preparation of trademark and copyright applications, investigations related to patentability and patent infringement analyses, due diligence investigations of intellectual property portfolios, analysis of intellectual property portfolios with respect to asset relevance and infringement assessment, review of licensing agreements for intellectual property assets, support for potential and actual intellectual property litigation, and other intellectual property matters. Mr. Rivera has represented and counseled clients regarding consumer products, industrial applications, and military applications in the fields of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering. Some of the areas in which Mr. Rivera has been active include electrical and electronic systems, power consumption management systems, lighting control systems, networking systems, semiconductor manufacturing, memory circuit architecture, consumer electronics, medical ultrasound devices, finite element analysis and other software systems, sports equipment, database management systems, aircraft interface and control systems, building construction systems, agricultural crop yield optimization and data management systems, and online telecommunications marketing systems, among others.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Rivera obtained an electrical engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he specialized in computer systems and VLSI design. His technical experience includes a position at Motorola, Inc. and Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., where he worked as a test engineer for digital and mixed-signal semiconductor devices. He was responsible for developing and implementing test software and procedures for the design and process development of new products, and for quality control of existing product lines. His product lines covered several test platforms, each requiring different skills for the implementation of software test applications in different languages, interfaces, and proprietary environments. He also coordinated test software development and implementation for new product introductions and overseas technology transfers between product design groups, process development sections, and manufacturing operations.
