Patricia Hanson’s practice encompasses a broad range of customs and international trade issues including those relating to valuation, tariff classification, country of origin determinations pertaining to marking and duty preference programs, and duty drawback. She has represented and guided clients through the Customs audit and civil penalty processes and through all stages of compliance with the C-TPAT initiative. Her representation of clients in these matters has spanned numerous government agencies including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Commerce Department, the International Trade Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Commission and the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office. In addition, Ms. Hanson has conducted numerous internal compliance reviews, in-house training seminars and has developed internal compliance programs for clients, both proactively and in response to inquiries and reviews initiated by government agencies.

Before joining Bryan Cave, Ms. Hanson spent six years at the U.S. Customs Service Headquarters in Washington, D.C. As a senior attorney in the Valuation Branch at Customs Headquarters, she worked extensively with transfer pricing issues and was involved in inter-agency policy discussions with the Internal Revenue Service regarding the First-Sale Rule and the coordination of Customs transfer pricing issues with Advanced Pricing Agreements ("APAs"). Subsequent to her tenure at Customs Headquarters, Ms. Hanson spent more than 11 years advising clients in the private sector.
