Bryan Cave's Kansas City office opened in 1988 to meet the needs of clients in the western part of Missouri as well as in Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma. With more than 90 lawyers, the office focuses on corporate, commercial and banking law (including regulatory), mergers and acquisitions, litigation (including products liability), commodities law and international business transactions.
The lawyers and staff of the Kansas City office play integral roles in organizations that benefit others. One of our lawyers was asked by former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes to chair the city’s Charter Review Commission, a committee formed to help the city government operate more efficiently by revising the 76-year-old charter. Our lawyers give time to the Kansas City Art Institute; Swope Parkway Health Center; Missouri Boys State; and the Kansas City Civic Council. Others play important roles in the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City, the City Council of Mission Hills, Kan., the Independence, Mo., Chamber of Commerce, the Olathe Economic Development Committee and the Platte County Economic Development Commission.
Youth concerns are supported by the Kansas City office, with lawyers playing leadership roles in Junior Achievement, Jewish Family & Children’s Services, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater KC, the Sunshine Center school, Kidz 2 Kidz, The Bridge Home for Children, the Iowa High School Hockey League and the Football and Cheerleading Club of Johnson County, to mention a few. In addition, lawyers and staff volunteer countless hours tutoring, coaching sports teams, leading youth groups in religious institutions and fundraising for schools and other not-for-profit organizations that benefit young people.
Helping those who don’t have resources to help themselves involves nearly everyone. Volunteer work for Legal Aid of Western Missouri as well as the United Way, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the American Heart Association, the Epilepsy Foundation and the Tri-County Domestic Violence Commission are par for the course. Lawyers and staff never hesitate to extend themselves to adopt a family at holiday time, participate in a Habitat for Humanity project or take up a collection for someone in need.
