Thompson Addresses CFPB UDAAP at Consumer Finance Class Action Conference

Santa Monica Partner Doug Thompson outlined trends in unfair practices interpretations and the applicable developing CFPB examination standards at the American Conference Institute’s 13th Annual Conference on Consumer Finance Class Actions & Litigation, held recently in New York. Thompson’s presentation also addressed practices and products the CFPB may target first, forthcoming written guidance on the issues, examination methodologies and related UDAP unfairness caselaw.

Each year, the Consumer Finance Class Actions & Litigation Conference brings together leading outside and in-house counsel in the consumer finance industry to provide insights and strategies needed to protect their clients in this complex arena. Participants gain up-to-date knowledge on emerging claims and obtain information on rolling out the most strategic defenses. A number of federal and state judges and top industry specialists also attended.

Thompson focuses his practice on representation of financial services institution clients involved in consumer class action litigation and complex litigation. He also provides clients advice regarding strategizing risk mitigation and compliance solutions for mortgage regulatory issues. He is chair of the firm’s Class and Derivative Actions Client Service Group.
