Hobson Moderates Health Care ‘Insiders’ Discussion

December 2, 2009

Julius Hobson, Jr., senior policy adviser in our Washington, D.C., office, will moderate an upcoming discussion on health care in America – the politics behind the debate, pending legislation and the outlook for health care reform.

Set for Thursday, Dec. 10, this first-time event will highlight alumni of The George Washington University who are serving key roles in the health care debate. The event is sponsored by the Luther Rice Society Political Alliance and The Graduate School of Political Management at The George Washington University.

Alongside Hobson, panelists will include high-ranking officials from the American Medical Association, AARP, the Service Employees International Union, Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America, the National Association of Manufacturers and DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance.

At Bryan Cave, Hobson advises and lobbies on a number of issues such as health care, appropriations, banking and financial services, budget, defense, foreign relations, energy and taxes. Prior to joining the firm, he was director of the Division of Congressional Affairs at the American Medical Association (AMA), where he managed the AMA’s interaction with Congress. Previously, Hobson was assistant director in the division.

The Luther Rice Society Political Alliance is a non-partisan network of Luther Rice Society members working in politics and related fields. Rice raised the necessary funding and lobbied President James Monroe and Congress to make George Washington’s vision of a university in the nation’s capital a reality. The Luther Rice Society was created in his honor in 1968.

The Graduate School of Political Management at The George Washington University is the only school in Washington, D.C., to teach practical, applied politics. Students come from around the nation to learn how to run campaigns, get elected to office or become lobbyists. Hobson is Professorial Lecturer at the GSPM where he teaches “Lobbying” and “Electoral and Legislative Processes”.
