Jim McAlpin is a partner in Bryan Cave LLP’s Financial Institutions practice group. The Financial Institutions Group represents hundreds of community banks throughout the United States. It is annually a national leader in merger and acquisition transactions, going private transactions, and public and private capital issuances for community banks.

Jim has broad experience in the areas of corporate and business law, including representation of both private and public companies in connection with capital and acquisition strategies, board disputes and dissident shareholders. He regularly counsels companies and banks on corporate governance matters, regulatory issues and strategic planning. Jim has an expertise in the duties, responsibilities and fiduciary obligations of corporate directors and represents boards of directors and special committees.

He is a nationally recognized speaker at industry conferences and contributes regularly to publications on bank and corporate governance related topics. He is also often quoted in banking industry publications.

Jim served as Chairman of Powell Goldstein LLP from March 2004 until its combination with Bryan Cave LLP in January 2009. He is currently serving on the Executive Committee of Bryan Cave and he is the leader of the firm-wide Banking Client Service Group.

He received a J.D. from the University of Alabama in 1984, and graduated, cum laude, from the University of Alabama in 1981, with a B.S. in Business Administration.
