Hassan Albakri's practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and counseling, as well as international trade matters. He has advised clients with regard to intellectual property issues, with emphasis on patent matters, in a wide range of industries, including computer hardware and software, health care, internet technologies, electronics, medical devices, cable television systems, and financial services. Mr. Albakri also analyzes intellectual property that clients are either interested in acquiring or are concerned about having used against them. To this end, he has provided patent invalidity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate advice, and has helped negotiate licenses and other agreements. He has also conducted due diligence investigations in connection with several transactions.
Mr. Albakri’s pro-bono activities have included asylum work as well as assisting the Carter Center in reviewing and opining on principal mining contracts entered into by the Democratic Republic of the Congo in an effort by its newly-elected government to reduce corruption.
Before attending graduate school, Mr. Albakri was an intern at the Dobelle Institute where he helped implement artificial vision for the blind by connecting a television camera to electrodes implanted in the human brain. Before that, he was a research fellow at Brown University in the Laboratory for Engineering Man/Machine Systems in image understanding and metrology.
Mr. Albakri's degrees are in electrical engineering and business economics.
