Perfect Score on HRC Corporate Equality Index - 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011

10/2010
Bryan Cave has once again earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2011 Corporate Equality Index. The report, which measures the extent to which employers create inclusive and friendly environments for their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees, found unprecedented growth in U.S. employer policies for LGBT workers.

“We are proud that the Human Rights Campaign has recognized us for the fourth year in a row as a leader on LGBT issues in the workplace,” said Chief Diversity Officer Lisa Martin. “Bryan Cave supports inclusion and fairness for all of our employees and our policies reflect that commitment to those core values.”

The ninth annual Corporate Equality Index, released Oct. 4, rated 615 of the largest and most successful U.S. employers selected from Fortune, American Lawyer and Forbes magazines on a scale from 0 to 100 percent on their treatment of LGBT employees. The ratings are based on factors such as non-discrimination policies, diversity training and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees. Bryan Cave was one of 337 businesses nationwide to meet all of the criteria and score 100 percent. Of those 337 businesses, 97 are law firms, eclipsing every other industry represented in the annual survey.

“Even in an economic environment that has presented new challenges for lawyers in private practice, the nation’s largest and most prestigious law firms have only stepped up their commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse group of attorneys and staff,” said HRC Foundation President Joe Solmonese. “Legal work in this country is deeply rooted in our nation’s core values of equality and justice for all, and law firms continue to set the gold standard for treating their LGBT employees fairly.”
