The award was created in 2005 to recognize those with distinguished careers representing corporate and business clients. “Tom is known throughout our Firm as a lawyers lawyer. His attention to detail is legendary among those who have worked with him. He is also among the first to take a new associate to lunch and to mentor them along the way,” said Kansas City Managing Partner Bob Thompson.
After graduating from law school in 1963, Van Dyke served on the staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission and spent a year as assistant to one of the five commissioners. Since then, he has built a well-known securities practice in which he represents issuers and underwriters in public offerings and private placements; prepares and reviews proxy statements and other periodic filings under the Exchange Act; represents clients in proxy contests; represents non-interested directors of an investment company; and handles civil litigation under the securities laws. His commercial practice includes the formation of new entities including corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies; mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations; spin-offs; and restructurings. He has served as counsel for buyers and sellers in several management leveraged buyouts.
